Ovahness Program

REACH LA’s Ovahness Program encourages young men to reach for the stars in all that they can do. The program is directed at young men of color between the ages of 16-24. The Ovahness program is designed to educate and inspire young men to discover own identity while assessing personal talents and skills that can mentally, physically and spiritually lead them to a successful life. Participants learn how to achieve their goals in the safest and healthiest ways possible.

The OVAHNESS program engages three levels of participation:

  • Individual: Participants can work with trained peer counselors to assess life goals and risk reduction in a more “wholistic” and supportive environment.

  • Community-Level: “Peers teaching their peers” is the model REACH LA’s OVAHNESS program utilizes to teach others about HIV and sexual health. Through innovative events (like the OVAHNESS Ball) and activities (peer led workshops, video screenings), the OVAHNESS team educates thousands of Los Angeles youth annually.

  • Leadership: OVAHNESS Leaders work to change injustices that affect their lives and their communities. They engage in educating their peers, communities and civic leaders about their concerns and work strategically to find solutions for positive change.
